AWHF works for the effective conservation and protection of Africa's natural and cultural heritage, and to increase the presence of African sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

 

Through effective investment and sustainable management of the sites and related activities, we aim for Africa's World Heritage Sites acting as catalysts in transforming Africa's image and means to stimulate economic growth and infrastructure development.

The AWHF is affiliated to UNESCO as a Category 2 Centre. This status denotes contribution to increasing the visibility, relevance and impact of UNESCO’s programmes.

 

The Archaeological Sites of the Island of Meroe was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011
